COPS THAT ROCK: PAL
is proud to announce a new project that will showcase the
diverse talents of the men and women of the LAPD, and help
to raise funds for the PAL Program. Jazz legend Jimmy Stewart
and his wife, music manager Terri Tilton are in the process
of producing “Hollywood Cops That Rock,” a CD
of original songs written and performed by LAPD officers.
In
describing the CD, Terri says, “Our city, as well as
the men and woman of LAPD, are very diverse. We hope, through
the universal language of music, to achieve a bridge between
our community and our police for the benefit of our children.
If we can put guitars, drum sticks, basketballs, baseballs
and confidence in the hearts, minds and hands of our children
then they won’t be in the streets with guns.”
“Hollywood
Cops That Rock”
joins the talent of police men and woman with the talent of
the Hollywood musical community, bringing forth messages of
hope, faith and diversity. The goal is to create a legacy
for PAL through the sales of this recording. The songs chosen
for this recording demonstrate a wide range of emotions, encapsulating
success, failure, hopes, wishes and the possibility that dreams
can come true.
Our
children are the future and we must provide them with the
necessary resources so that they will see that they can have
a better future. Hollywood PAL provides and gives children
that opportunity. By supporting “Hollywood Cops that
Rock” you can make a difference in their lives. As Terri
says, “let’s stop the violence and make music!”

A novel from John A Kuri
“Against
overwhelming odds, five Hollywood teens are coached by an
unlikely pair of off-duty police officers and rise above drugs,
gangs, and the potential pitfalls of the street when, as teammates
and friends, they unite in a citywide competition by learning
to overcome the agony of defeat and finally taste the sweetness
of victory.”
This is the description of a new novel by renowned writer,
John Kuri. The book focuses on a group of kids from various
backgrounds who are joined together through basketball and
the Hollywood PAL program. Kuri explains his inspiration for
the writing the novel as follows:
“I
grew up in Hollywood. The pool and playground along Cahuenga
and Cole, north of Santa Monica Boulevard, are the same as
they were then and the possibility for a kid to find trouble
hasn’t changed either. In the more recent years, as
a dad attending many games on similar grounds, watching my
sons and daughters, and marveling at parents who gave so much
time to coach and mentor those kids, I could not help but
realize what a gift that was.
And
for the kids who don’t have the blessings of a big family,
organized school activities, all those privileges so many
take for granted, there is a force across this nation that
is 80,000 strong. It is the Police Activities League and it’s
made up of off-duty officers, men and women who give their
time to make a difference in a kid’s life. Hollywood
PAL is one of the finest examples of mentors at work for kids
and the community.
Each
book purchased through Amazon.com will earn money for Hollywood
PAL It is a non-profit organization that depends entirely
on contributions to support the costs associated with the
program that is run by these fine volunteers.”
Many
high-profile figures have the following to say about “Takin’
it Back:”
“This
book speaks to the inner-city teens regardless of color, and
brings honor to thousands of mentors, many off-duty police
officers, who selflessly give guidance to hundreds of thousands
of our at-risk kids, daily.”
