The Enrique Noguerra Community GardenLocated at the southwest corner of June and Fountain, before its rebirth as a garden, this area was a blight to the community: a dumping area for old couches and trash! But community leaders such as Enrique Noguerra and Ferris Wehbe saw the opportunity to turn something negative into a positive, enriching experience for all. On Oct. 14, 1999, HPSA, PAL, the Hollywood Schoolhouse, Woodbury University, City Architects, Rotary Club of Hollywood and residents of the area broke ground for the project. After many months of work, The Enrique Noguera Community Garden and Park opened on October 24, 2000.
The PAL children and the Hollywood Schoolhouse children use the garden on a regular basis. They learn about watering, planting seeds, weeding and harvesting vegetables. We have one more part of the garden to add: a gazebo. A neighborhood matching fund grant has been awarded to our project and construction will be completed in the Spring of 2003.
